Further Information

Chafer Grubs

One application per year should be applied either as a preventative treatment made prior to anticipated chafer grub infestation (for example, when you see the beetle eggs in the soil) or as a curative treatment up to the 2nd instar growth stage, alternatively apply when identification of damage to turf is seen.

Leatherjackets

Applications should ideally be made prior to the egg hatching when the adult crane flies are visible. One application per year is needed for Chafer Grub and Leatherjacket control. Merit Turf needs sufficient water to move the granule through the thatch, wetting the top inch of the soil. The amount will vary, depending on the thickness of the thatch and the moisture level of the thatch/soil.

Application

Avoid mowing the turf until after irrigation or rainfall has occurred so that uniformity of application will not be affected. Apply Merit Turf uniformly over the area being treated with normally used granular application equipment. Hand held, drop type and rotary type spreaders may be used to apply Merit Turf. Avoid the use of spreaders that would apply the granule in narrow, concentrated bands. Merit Turf should not be bulked up with fertiliser or sand at application, because of the different densities of these materials. Do not apply Merit Turf when it is raining or in windy conditions.

Merit® Turf Trials

In trials that have run in the UK over a two year period, Merit Turf on many sites achieved 100% control for up to 11 months after treatment. These sites often had populations of chafer grubs of over 1,000 per m². Out of the many trials put down an average efficiency of over 80% was seen after four and a half months.
